Valentine's Day Decade Collab: 60's Edition

A while back I had the idea of doing a big collab just in time for Valentine's Day with lots of other lovely bloggers. I tweeted seeing if anyone would be interested & a couple of wonderful girls replied. They were Alice from DaintyAlice,  Demi from DenbraberBeauty, Tazhi from TazhiLuxe and Louise from LouiseRoseRailton. Sadly, Louise had to pull out due to personal problems but go show her a little love, she could use some right now :)

We decided to each do a different decade for each look but we also thought of adding a day & night look for each era, so whatever your preference & whatever your plans; we've got you covered.

I chose to go for a 60's look, as I adore that era. The music, the fashion & the makeup was all beautiful & it's an era I'd have love to have been born in. I feel like the classic 60's staple makeup look is a flick of black liner & a matte lip so I've stuck to that basis for both the day & night look, with a few additional extras along the way. Alice is doing an 80's look, Tazhi a 90's look and Demi a 00's/Modern day look so be sure to go & check all their posts out! They're all fab.

Whilst I do have a boyfriend, we don't tend to celebrate Valentine's Day as I'm not a huge fan so we won't have any plans. My day will probably involve spending the day makeupless at home recovering from a hangover as I'm out with friends on Saturday night. In case like me you won't be doing much on the day or fancy giving you skin a good prep before the big night, I've written a glowing skin skincare guide which you can find here.

Anyway enough talking, on with the look. Here's both the day & night version of my 60's inspired look:

DAY LOOK.
For the day look I wanted to keep it pretty simple meaning it could be worn anywhere or even out at night for those who like a more natural look. I feel like this look is very wearable but still incorporates the 60's style with the black cat eye flick & a matte pink lip. I love this look, it's my go-to everyday makeup look and is one that I think suits everyone really well. The cat eye flick can be a little tricky to master at first but it just takes a bit of practice, patience and a good tutorial. Anyway, here's what I used to get this look:

FACE
I buffed in a bit of Revlon ColorStay Foundation all over then added a dab of Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to any blemishes & also under my eyes. I set the base with Rimmel Stay Matte Powder. Then I contoured a little using Sleek Contour Kit and finished off with a sweep of Benefit Rockateur Blusher along my cheeks.

EYES:
For the cat eye flick, I used L'oreal Superliner Perfect Slim. The really thin nib makes it easy to get a really precise line. For mascara I used Maybelline Lash Sensational.

BROWS:
I filled my brows in as normal using the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade and set them with Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara.

LIPS:
I wanted a really nice nude pink colour that was matte and the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes was the perfect match. This colour is great for everyday wear as it lasts all day & you don't have to worry about touching it up too often. I also think it's a really great 60's inspired shade.

NIGHT LOOK.
I wanted the night look to be a bit more dramatic but still very wearable. I love all the 60's crazy liner looks like Edie Sedgwick wore but I honestly don't think I'd be brave enough to rock them for a night out. Instead I went for an updated version of the day time look. This could easily be taken from day to night as although I used different products, you could easily keep the base the same and just update the eye look with some shadow, a more dramatic flick & more lashings of mascara.  Here's what I used:

FACE:
As I was going out for the night when I wore this look, I wanted the makeup to stay in place for as long as possible so I went for the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation as my base. I then used my trusty Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and Rimmel Stay Matte Powder again. I contoured again using the Sleek Contour Kit and opted for a matte blush this time in the form of MAC's Melba.

EYES:
I used Makeup Revolution's What You Waiting For Salvation Palette on my eyes with the shade Now It's Only Me in the inner corner, and Tick Tock all over, in the crease and underneath the eye. I wanted the liner to be a lot more dramatic for this look, so I did my usual flick using the Bobbi Brown Gel Liner and then went over it with the Collection Fast Stroke Liner. I also extended the flick a lot more with this one compared to the first one, and took the liner under the eye too to add a little something extra. I finished off with lots and lots of Benefit's Roller Lash Mascara, putting more than I usually would on my lower lashes for a Twiggy vibe.

BROWS:
I used the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade again on my brows but made the colour a lot darker than I did for the daytime look by applying more product. I set them with Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara as before.

LIPS:
I started with Topshop's Lipstick in Whimsical which is the most perfect 60's peachy pink shade. However, sadly I felt this looked a little too pale on me so I added a touch of MAC's Mehr Lipstick over the top. I'm still not overly keen on the colour in this photo, I think the NYX Lip Cream I used in the first one would have looked much better. Although, the peachy colour is definitely a lot more 60's.

So there we have it! My 60's inspired look for Valentine's Day. I feel like these looks are really versatile and could be worn on any occasion at any time of the year. They're 100% looks that I'll be wearing again sometime in the future. I love them!

Don't forget to check out the other girls looks too. You can find them here -
